It never ceases to amaze me how, when I'm doing something important that the Lord has called me to do, someone or something tries to get in the way and stop me from accomplishing the task. Nehemiah's experience wasn't any different as he was working to rebuild the wall around Jerusalem. He was approached time and time again by his enemies wanting to speak with him. But rather than being diplomatic and feeling the need to indulge their requests, Nehemiah simply responded, "I am doing a great work and I cannot come down," (6:3). Nehemiah understood that what he was doing was of more importance than being diplomatic in the moment. He needed to finish what God had led him to start, and nothing was going to get in the way of that happening. Andy Stanley had a great sermon on this Scripture and idea called "This One Thing" that you can watch online here. What good work has God called you to that you can't be distracted from? Will you be as bold as Nehemiah and claim "I am doing a great work and I cannot come down?"
