Better is One Day (Psalms 49, 84-85, and 87)

Can you think of the best place you’ve ever been?  Maybe the most beautiful or the most amazing?  When I was in college I had the opportunity to spend four months in Ireland.  The highlight of my tour was a boat trip to an island off the West coast of the country called Skellig Michael.  Skellig michael This incredible piece of volcanic rock that juts out of the Atlanta Ocean was settled by a group of monks many centuries ago.  Trips to this island are not guaranteed every day because it requires traveling across several ocean currents that can, at times, be too dangerous for boats even today.  Once the monks settled on the island, they committed to staying there for their entire lives.  I think that Skellig Michael is probably the most beautiful place I have ever been.  We were there on a bright, sunny day, with the crystal clear, blue ocean water crashing against the rocks.  I remember thinking to myself, if this is anything close to Heaven, then Heaven will have to be truly awesome.  The Psalmist tells us that it will be better to spend a day in Heaven than 1,000 days somewhere else… even Skellig Michael!  What an overwhelming experience it will be when we finally get to be in the place where God's glory dwells forever and ever.  Lord, haste the day!
