Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act. (Proverbs 3:27)
It isn’t possible to help every person in need, but it is possible to help some people in need. Solomon gives wise counsel in Proverbs 3:27 when he encourages his sons to do good whenever possible. Whenever it’s within your power to do good for someone else, then you should do so.
When we do good for others, we introduce them to the character of God.
After all, if God is good and He is the Creator of all things, then good must originate in Him. All good things come from God, and the good that we show to others gives them a taste of God – whether they know Him or not.
How different would the world look if everyone were willing to do meet the needs of those who are less fortunate?
What if you began saying “yes” whenever you were capable of doing good for someone else? Not all things are under your power, but some things are. Take every opportunity you have to do good for others. In doing so, you will introduce them to the character of their heavenly Father.
Father, help me to be wise. When there is an opportunity for me to do good for someone else, please give me wisdom to do whatever I can do. Keep me from making excuses for why I’m too busy or unable to help, and in the process of my doing good, let people come to know You – the Author of all good things.
