I thought I had a brilliant leadership idea Tuesday evening until I talked to my friend Ethan about it. Apparently I didn't come up with this leadership idea; I unknowingly stole it from Spiritual Leadership! Nonetheless, it's worth noting with proper credit.
Leaders have to make decisions. That's the long and short of it. In fact, decision-making is one of the qualities that separates a leader from someone who isn't a leader. The leader makes decisions not because he or she necessarily knows the right answer but because it's time to make a decision. I'm not suggesting that decisions should be made in haste with inadequate information and research. But there's a time when hard decisions have to be made, and the leader has to step up and decide. After doing so, the leader also must live with the consequences realizing that he made the best decision he could with the information he had. Was the leader right? Maybe. Maybe not. There are moments, though, when something has to be done. The leader has to choose, and the consequences (good or bad) become a reality. The leader knows that it's better to live with the consequences of a wrong decision than it is to live with the consequences of making no decision. Are there any areas where it's time to make up your mind?
