And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this? (Esther 4:14b)
Does anything happen by accident? Does God put circumstances in our lives for no purpose? Does He give us our jobs, our neighbors, or other relationships for no reason at all? Or perhaps He uniquely places us where we are for the opportunities He has in store for us.
The story of Esther is a rich one that you should spend some time reading. Essentially, Mordecai’s challenge to Esther when she was faced with a tough decision was simple: maybe God has you in the place where you are for a reason. Esther was perfectly placed to rescue God’s people from the danger that was coming their way, and she had a choice to make: risk her life or miss her opportunity.
I wonder sometimes how the church would be different today if people didn’t miss their opportunities to make an impact for God’s kingdom when they were in the right place to do so. It takes a real leader to see the circumstance and to face the risk.
Courage is not the absence of fear; it is the overcoming of it.
Certainly Esther was afraid of what might happen to her, but without the presence of fear, there couldn’t be courageous leadership. Has God placed an opportunity before you in the place where you are right now? Are you willing to be courageous? Or one day will you look back on your life and see a lot of missed opportunities?
Father, help me not to miss any opportunities that You have set before me. Help me to lead courageously and to trust You even when things are challenging. Let me see the ways that You have uniquely positioned me to do Your work, and let more follow through with it.
