Okay, so “Beautiful” isn’t exactly the right translation, but it sounds better than “Pretty.” Last Thursday Kari and I went on field trip with the kids from the International School to a town called Bonito, which translated, means “pretty.” The reason for the name has to do with several waterfalls in the area. We started off in a beautiful Catholic Church where we got a history of the town, and then we drove to the waterfalls on a long cobblestone road (the Portuguese word for cobblestone is “paralela pipedo” – which sounds really funny to say).
One of the most amusing things to Kari and me was the way the kids ate so much food! We had a 2 km walk to get to the first set of falls, and the kids had pulled out their cans of Coke and bags of chips within the first 10 minutes of hiking!
At one of the waterfalls we saw a nice rainbow and were able to climb down to the bottom. It’s really amazing how such a small stream of water can turn into a giant waterfall. We had a really fun, but exhausting day.
