The risk of avoiding ADVENTURE

September 30, 2009 By Seth 1 Comment

I have really enjoyed hearing from some of you over the last few days in response to some of my posts regarding this topic of ADVENTURE.  One thought that was brought to light by a reader was the risk that come with avoiding ADVENTURE.  It sounds a little funny to say that we take a risk by avoiding ADVENTURE, but I think there is a very real risk that has to be considered… it is the risk of pushing the "mute" button on God's voice in our lives.
A few weeks ago I was talking to my brother who was relaying his story of recently being re-baptized.  My brother is not someone who has fallen away from the Lord or who has gotten himself into trouble in life.  In fact, according to our parents, he became a Christian around the age of 3.  He was baptized after confirmation in the Methodist Church, but he didn't feel like his relationship with the Lord truly became real until after his baptism.  After hearing his pastor speak on baptism and sensing a prompting from the Holy Spirit, he went forward at a baptismal service and was baptized.  My brother is not one to enjoy being in the spotlight or in front of others, and I have no doubt that this was a hard decision for him.  As we talked, however, he made a comment that really resonated with me.  He said that he didn't want to ignore God's voice in his life on this matter because he was afraid that if he ignored God's voice too much, he wouldn't hear God's voice any longer.  Isn't that the risk we take when we avoid ADVENTURE?  It's like turning the volume down a notch or two on the television.  After doing that a few times, you can't hear it anymore.  It seems like we really to evaluate the options as it comes to joining in ADVENTURE.  Is it more risky to put our trust in our heavenly Father, or is it more risky to mute our heavenly Father's voice so we become immune to hearing it?

Wow, its hard to think that if we ignore Gods voice we might eventually stop hearing from him. I need to stay in constant prayer, which I fail at misserably. I want to hear his voice when he calls out my name to have me move for him, weather I turn from the left or to the right I want to hear the voice in my ear saying this is the way walk in it. I want to hear his voice, acctually I need to LISTEN to his voice. Thanks for sharing this Seth, im really going to miss you when you’re gone.
