A walk down memory lane (Deuteronomy 1-2)

September 22, 2007 By Seth Leave a Comment

Moses begins the book of Deuteronomy by reminding the Israelites of their history.  The people he was addressing was a different crowd from the one he led out of Egypt, and it was important for him to retell the story of how they got where they were at that point in time.  When is the last time you took a walk down memory lane?  How did your family get to the place where it is today?  What kind of legacy was left by those who went before you?  Are you leaving a legacy for those who come after?  How has God been faithful to you and your family?  How has God been faithful to the church?  It's good to remember.  Moses reminded the people of God's faithfulness in following through with his promise to Abraham that his offspring would outnumber the stars.  How has God followed through with His promises in your life?  In the case of the Israelites, Moses words are similar to George Santayana's famous quote: Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
