My iPod Touch has a nice little sound when a new email comes in. My Outlook does the same thing. My phone buzzes when a text message is sent to me. Junk is popping up on my computer screen all day notifying me of something or another. And in the midst of all of the noise, I have a hard time focusing. I don't know if you're the same way or not, but I wonder how much technology has really benefited me. I'm more available than ever before with 3 phones (office, home, and cell), multiple email addresses, a Facebook page, and a personal blog. But how have these things helped me? If my responsibility in life is to worship God, I have to ask myself if these "conveniences" have a way of distracting me from that. It's hard to sit still for just a few minutes without some kind of interruption. And yet Psalm 46:10 says, "Be still, and know that I am God." So here's my challenge to you: go into a room, close the door, turn off the phone, turn off the computer, and spend some time in silent stillness, knowing that He is God. It will be good for your soul.
