Do You Believe? (Psalm 79; Habakkuk)

January 30, 2014 By Seth Leave a Comment

Lord, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, Lord.  Repeat them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy. (Habakuk 3:2)

Do you believe the stories that you’ve heard about God?  Do you believe He created the world and everything in it?  Do you read through the words of the Bible and sit in awe of His marvelous deeds?  Are the words simply stories?  Are they imaginings of creative people?  Is God still here?  Is He capable of doing great things even today?

See, I’ve heard stories of God’s fame, and I’m in awe of His deeds that I read about in the Bible.  But will He repeat them in my time?  Will He work His marvelous wonders even now?  Is He still in the business of making Himself known?  Does He still show up?

Let Habakkuk’s prayer be your prayer.  Let it be my prayer.  Let’s pray with anticipation that God is not dead, nor is He asleep.  In our generation – even today – He will repeat His awesome deeds and turn hearts toward Himself.

Lord, I want Habakkuk’s prayer to be my prayer.  I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, Lord.  Repeat them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy.
