Several years back we were in Mexico building houses, and the very first thing we did was to create a solid foundation. In fact, we spent a really long time on the foundation because we knew how pivotal it was to the house as a whole. Jesus used that concept to describe how our lives should be built on a solid foundation of applying His teaching. Like in so many areas of life, value comes to us when we apply what we know. Simply having knowledge of Jesus' teachings isn't really enough. We have to apply them. And it's when those teachings have been applied that we learn just how sustaining they are in our lives. Every life will face a storm – whether it's a death of a loved one, the loss of a job, or anything else – but the life that applies Jesus' teaching will be like a house built on rock when the storm comes. The winds and the waves beat against the house, but because the foundation was solid, the house does not collapse. Is your life built on applying Jesus' words? If not, I challenge you to try putting them into practice. Even if it's just for 30 days. Try practicing His teaching, and see what happens!
