It’s Epic (Acts 7-8)

To this [Stephen] replied: “Brothers and fathers, listen to me! The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham… (Acts 7:2a)

Epic is a funny word that gained popularity several years ago.  When I worked with teens on a regular basis, I began hearing “it will be epic” or “that’s so epic.”  What’s funny is that those “epic” things they referred to really weren’t that monumental compared to the Epic that we find in the Bible.

Each day I’ve been chronicling my read-through of the Epic that we find in Scripture.  It’s truly an amazing, story that began with Adam and Eve and that continues even today.  It was this Epic that Stephen shared with the Jews when he was being questioned by the council. And it was in response to this Epic that people stoned Stephen to death.

There are people who don’t like this story because of the implications that it has for them.  And yet those who choose to be a part of the Epic find a joy and a courage that is unthinkable to the others standing on the sidelines and watching.  The crazy thing is that even those who hated the story played an important role in it.  The truth is, no one’s part is unimportant.  The real issue is what side of the Epic you’ll be on – the side that shares the story of what God is doing or the side that opposes it.

Lord, I want to be a part of furthering this great epic that You have invited me to join in and be a part of.  Help me to do whatever I can to share about this epic with others, and give me the words and the courage I need to do so.
