More is at Risk Than You Think (Matthew 4; Luke 4-5; John 1:15-51)

Temptation is a funny thing.  In the moment, we think it's all about what's in front of us.  For this mouse, I'm sure he was just thinking about the cheese.  But a lot more was at risk for him, and a lot more is at risk for us when we face temptation.  We can learn this lesson by Jesus' temptations.  Each tmie he was tempted, Satan wanted him to believe that what was at stake was right in front of him.  But that was the deceitfulness of Satan.  If Jesus had given into temptation, then he could no longer be the sinless sacrifice for sin that he was when he died on the cross.  It wasn't just his future at risk, but ours was at risk, too.  The same is true for us.  Don't give in to the belief that your temptation is about the moment and about the thing that's right in front of you because it's not.  Your temptation is about a whole lot more.
