When you read the Bible quickly, you have the opportunity to see hundreds of years compressed into just a month of time. So when we read about Israel numbering more than a million people, it’s easy to think that the fulfillment of God’s promise to Abraham was fairly rapid. However, such was not really the case. Abraham died not really seeing God’s promise to make him a great nation fulfilled. In fact, Isaac and Jacob also died before seeing God’s promise to their father fulfilled. The important thing to note, though, is that God did, in fact, fulfill His promise. Even here, the promise was only partially fulfilled and wouldn’t fully be realized until Christ. When God makes a promise, He always comes through on His word. God can be trusted to do all that He says He’ll do.
