Sometimes it’s easy to think that the things of this world are simply all random. After all, that’s what the evolutionary biologists hold to. The universe is a random array of events that just so happen to have occurred in a sequence that enabled the Milky Way to be created. In turn came the planets and the earth, and eventually plants and animals appeared. Then through genetic mutations over millions of years came humans. It’s all random; there is no God. The interworking of the universe has no purpose or meaning, and life exists simply because the random events enabling life to exist took place in the order that they did. In these Psalms, however, we read that it’s not really random at all. In fact, David declared that it is because of God’s equipping of strength and because of God’s help that he was able to defeat his enemies. The Psalmist from 121 states that the God who watches over us neither slumbers nor sleeps; He is always aware of what’s going on in our lives – He’s aware, and He cares. To the one who believes in God, there is no randomness in the universe because it is governed by the Lord, and the Lord is engaged in His creation. There is nothing that happens to you but that the Lord allows it to happen. That should be a source of encouragement because we know that God works all things for good for those who love Him and have been called according to His purposes (Romans 8:28). Be encouraged today to know that we do not live in a random world, but we have a gracious God who watches over us!
