Seeing God (Exodus 41)

September 15, 2007 By Seth Leave a Comment

Sometimes I'm jealous of the Israelites: they saw God's presence.  Exodus records that God revealed Himself in a cloud by day and in a pillar of fire by night.  How incredible!  As amazing as that would be, it would, at some point, become very ordinary.  I have to believe that the cloud and fire lost their luster, and even in a visible state, God was forgotten.  Would we be any different?  In my life, too, the extraordinary becomes the ordinary, and I quickly forget the presence of God that can seem so tangible at times.  We need, then, to be reminded of God – to make our relationship with Him fresh on a regular basis so we don't become immune to His cloud and fire and forget that He is with us.  Routine is the enemy of desire and spontaneity is it's friend.  Which one marks your faith?
