Sometimes it ‘ s okay to be hated (John 15)

April 20, 2008 By Seth Leave a Comment

Some people don't like the thought that anyone would hate them, but Jesus warns us that we should be prepared to be hated if we're followers of Him.  Don't let that comment encourage you to behave in any way other than how Jesus behaved when He walked on earth.  There are some Christians who are hated by others not because they follow Christ but because they're jerks.  They behave in ways that are nothing short of embarrassing to other Christ followers, and they claim that they are hated because of their faith.  Not true.  They're hated because they're hateful people.  When someone hates you for loving someone else or for serving others (basically for living the way Jesus modeled for us), then it's Jesus in you that's being hated… a hatred we should expect to experience.  Be careful that you are not giving people any reason other than Christ to hate you.
