The Love of Appreciation (Song of Songs 5-8)

I have to confess that I was having a really hard time deciding what to write about today, and then I talked with a pastor here in Brasil, Ricardo, and he gave me the ideas behind this post.  I want to be sure to give credit where credit is due.  :-)

As you read through Song of Songs, you read about a couple who is deeply in love with each other but who also faces challenges in the midst of their love.  One of the challenges of any relationship is learning how to appreciate different aspects about that person.  Either just before or just after I was married (I don't remember which), I saw a video led by Warren Wiersbe where he talked about the choice that you have to make every day in marriage to focus on the positive qualities rather than the negative.  Rather than being an expert at your spouse's shortcomings (which, depending on the day, could seem like an enormous task), we need to become experts as appreciating the blessings that our spouses bring to us.  It's almost like treasure hunting.  I think my wife probably has to hunt a little harder than I do to find that treasure, but she has definitely become an expert.

Do you show appreciation to your spouse?  Or do you nitpick over the minutae?  The fact is, you will find whatever you're looking for.  Be committed to showing the love of appreciation.
