The Pillar and Buttress of Truth

July 31, 2007 By Seth Leave a Comment

Truth is a concept that isn't particularly prevalent in contemporary American culture.  Whatever a person wants to believe is his or her prerogative, and no one else should assert any other opinion.  Whatever you desire to be truth is truth so long as your truth doesn't impress its value on someone else's.  While this might sound like a nice philosophy, it is not a Biblical one.  In 1 Timothy 3:15, the Apostle Paul speaks of "the church of the living God" as "a pillar and buttress of truth."  That means that, in our culture, people should be looking to the Church for truth, and that people should be provided with the truth by the Church.  My prayer for our church is that it could be a pillar and buttress of God's truth on the south side of Indianapolis.
