The Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14)

April 19, 2008 By Seth Leave a Comment

Notice that Jesus did not claim to be a way, or a truth, or a life.  No, He claimed to be the Way, and the Truth, and the Life.  He said that no one gets to the Father but through Him; He didn't say that He's the best way to get to the Father.  Some people have made the erroneous claim that Jesus is just one way to reach Heaven.  Some say Jesus is just the best way to reach Heaven.  Others claim that all religions lead to the same place.  Unfortunately none of those statements is true.  If Jesus is only one of several ways to get to heaven, then why would He sacrifice His life?  Wouldn't that be a waste of a sacrifice?  Who would give his life up for others if he didn't have to?  Even Jesus prayed, "Father, take this cup from me…"  He didn't want to go through with His death, but He knew that we could not be made right (justified) before God without it.  Jesus' death and our faith in it are essential to getting to Heaven.  No one gets to the Father but through Christ, and that only comes by trusting Christ for the forgiveness of sins.  I'm so glad that Jesus took the cup even though He didn't want to.  His death leads to my life.  For that I am grateful.
