Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. –James 1:13
There is a difference between trials and temptations. Trials are meant to build our faithfulness, but temptations tear us away from God. Trials come from God for our own good, but temptations are far from His character. Because of God’s holiness, evil has no place in Him – it has no sway over Him. Temptations are not an excuse to believe that God is somehow okaying me to sin because He caused the temptation to exist. A major part of the role of wisdom in our lives is understanding what comes from God and what does not. Warren Wiersbe said, “A temptation is an opportunity to accomplish a good thing in a bad way, out of the will of God.” The next time you’re tempted, remember that the temptation does not come from God because He is never the author of such things.
