What kind of milk do you drink? (Hebrews 5-7)

June 13, 2008 By Seth Leave a Comment

Do you remember your days in pre-school or kindergarten?  I vaguely remember my time in "Thursday School" – a pre-school that met for a few hours every Thursday.  I was pretty little at that point in time – only 5 years old.  Can you imagine what it would have been like for me to have someone in his 20's in my class?  It would have been a little weird.  Everybody would be looking that this person thinking that he or she was a little too old for Thursday School.  While that's a funny image to think about, it's not too far from the reality of some Christians who, though they've been following Christ for a long time, are still learning as though they were in Thursday School.  We would say that such a person is not drinking adult milk but is drinking kid's milk.  Now when a baby feeds from his or her mom, it's perfectly natural and normal for him or her to be drinking milk in such a fashion.  But when an adult does it it's just downright disturbing.  I say that to express that new followers of Christ are allowed to drink milk from the bottle – it's expected of them because they're "babies" in their faith.  Have you graduated up to adult milk?  Are you out of Thursday School?  What kind of milk are you drinking?  Do you need a kick in the rear to start moving away from the bottle?  Here it is!
