A Frightful Scene (1 Kings 17-19)

I can't imagine what it must have been like for the Israelites as they watched the little scene unfold on top of Mount Carmel with the prophets of Baal battles against Elijah.  The prophets were dancing around, slashing themselves with whips, and doing everything in their might to receive the attention of their god.  Morning, noon, and night this took place until Elijah stepped in to show them the real God.  He even went so far as to rub things in their faces as he had gallons of water poured over his altar.  What must the Israelites have felt when the saw the flames fall from heaven and ignite the altar?  How do you respond when you realize you've been living your life for the wrong reason and you've been walking down the wrong path?  What do you do?  For the Israelites, they bowed down and worshipped the Lord.  They were humble enough to recognize that the path they were on wasn't the right path, and they turned back to Him.

What you do in those moments of realization might be one of the most important things about you.  There will come a moment in time when you mess up and realize you've been walking down the wrong road.  Will you, in humility, turn back?  Or will you continue walking in a direction that leads you further and further away from the Lord?
