During Solomon's second encounter with the Lord he was reminded of something very important – a message that is woven throughout Israel's history, and one that I have written about here on other occasions. Namely, Solomon was reminded of the benefits of following God, the drawbacks of choosing his own path, and the fact that he had a choice in the outcome. Some people believe that God is playing some sort of cosmic chess game where humans are simply his pawns. Scripture, however, seems to speak differently: there is choice, and there is a difference between wise choices and foolish choices. It's a good reminder for all of us to heed because we are all certainly capable of going either direction. What is the difference between one who chooses wisely and one who chooses poorly? The one who chooses wisely knows God's Word and puts it into practice.
