How often, from the very depth of your being, do you bless the Lord? For too long, the Church has been made up of Sunday Christians who show up for worship services but who walk away and live godless lives from Monday to Saturday. In writing Psalm 103, David wanted to bless the Lord from the core of who he was. He wanted every piece of himself to exist for God’s glory. One of the reasons why David was called a man after God’s own heart was that the goal of his life was to bring worship and praise to the Lord. If you know much about the story of David, you know that he had a huge failure in mid-life as he slept with the wife of a soldier who had gone off to war. When the woman became pregnant, he had her husband murdered on the front lines of battle. However, when David was confronted with his sin, he wept in great sorrow and sought forgiveness for his sin. He certainly had to pay the consequences of his choice, and his family suffered greatly as a result. However, he continued worshipping God with all his might. Would God give you the designation of a man or a woman after His own heart? Do you worship Him from the very core of your being? When you recognize your sin, do you turn away from it and back to Him? The New Living Translation states Psalm 103:1 like this: “Let all that I am praise the LORD; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name.”
