Well today has been quite a day. I heard 6 speakers today, which is a lot of listening, thinking, and dialoguing. One of the highlights was getting to hear Jon Acuff from StuffChristiansLike.net. He is quite humorous in real life in addition to on his blog. The things I walked away from thinking about are these:
- Am I interested in helping people to know Jesus Christ, or am I interested in helping people to be impressed with Seth Bartal?
- Am I too concerned with church as a building, or do I want church to impact the world?
- Do I try to force families into a mold of the perfect stock photo, or do I help families see how the grand story of redemption runs through their lives?
- Do I care about my vision for ministry, or I do I care about God's mission for ministry?
Those aren't all necessarily mutually exclusive, but I definitely have a lot to think about in the coming days. One speaker shared a story that I think was a really good challenge. In the story, a pastor had his congregation go out somewhere in public where people are and pray for an entire hour that God would help them to see the way He sees. Wow! I want to do that when I get home!
We actually have lots of video updates to post… four to be exact. So, check back later, and this post might be updated with more as they get updated. The Internet is a little slow here at the Hampton Inn (I'm not complaining… just saying), so I'm not sure if they'll all get up tonight. Please pray for us that we will be open to all that the Lord wants to teach us during out time here!
