It's hard to look at Samson as a real hero because of his severe character flaws. From the beginning, he battled temptation to walk away from the path that the Lord was leading him on, and he gave up the very thing that set him apart from others for his future life of serving the Lord: being a Nazirite. Samson displayed great strength when he killed the lion, but the temptation to later view his prized effort was too much. When he returned to the carcass, he became defiled by the dead body. He was a double-minded in all he did: serving himself (as I said yesterday) before serving the Lord.
Our character is so incredibly important, and anything we do to undermine it can have lasting consequences just as this did for Samson. Are there any character flaws in your life that need to be brought before the Lord? Don't delay because just as bad yeast can destroy a whole loaf of bread, so can bad character destroy a life. It only takes a little time to spread, and the results are often devastating.
