Circumcising your heart (Deuteronomy 9-10)

September 26, 2007 By Seth Leave a Comment

Moses tells the Israelites that they need to circumcise the foreskin of their hearts before God.  That's a pretty interesting phrase that we don't hear too often (another example of something I never would have come up with if I was making the bible up on my own).  The Israelites were required to perform circumcision on their sons, but was it enough to go through the motions on a regular basis and never allow God to change their hearts?  Of course not!  God isn't interested in more people going through the motions: His desire is for the circumcision of the heart, which is true life change.  In and of themselves, rituals like circumcision mean nothing.  Their values come when they reflect what is going on in a person's life.  Is your heart circumcised, or are you just going through the motions?
