As I read stories from Scripture, I am reminded of the fact that every unbelievable act of faith is accompanied by an unbelievably impossible task. Each time the task seems impossible, God steps into the situation and does what no one could have possibly expected. The moment that sticks out most in my mind is the journey into the Promised Land that was made by the Israelites. In order to get there, they had to cross the Jordan River during its flood stage. The Jordan was impossible to cross, but Joshua was given the instructions that as soon as the priests who were carrying the Ark stepped foot into the river, the water would stop flowing. "Yeah, right. Come on God, couldn't you stop the flow when we're a foot away? Why do we actually have to get our feet wet?" The Israelites were facing a risk that they would be swept away by the current. But they stepped anyway. And miraculously, the water stopped flowing. God couldn't have picked a worse time to have them traverse the river, and yet He was in control and showed that He was the One leading them into the Promised Land. How else could they explain such an experience?
As Kari and I go about our ADVENTURE, it is apparent to us that we're stepping into the Jordan River during its flood stage. We're asking people to give to us in the midst of the worst economic time in the United States in decades. Even so, people are giving generously, and we are simply amazed. If you have supported us financially, we are so grateful to you! I just heard that one of our sister churches who is thinking about supporting us nearly doubled it's faith promise giving for next year! I'm not talking about doubling $10,000… I'm talking about nearly doubling $200,000!! Isn't that incredible? One of the worst years economically is turning out to be one of the best years for the Kingdom of God. Funny how that works, isn't it? Sometimes the most illogical things to do in our minds (raising support in a bad economy) are the very things the Lord wants us to do. We are so thankful that we get to be on this ADVENTURE! Soli Deo Gloria!
