In reading Spiritual Leadership this evening I was challenged by a quote. "The mediocre leader postpones difficult decisions, conversation, and letters. Delay solves nothing and usually makes problems worse." Unfortunately, I'm sure I'm guilty of postponing challenging tasks. That's one reason why I can sometimes be a procrastinator: I'd rather do what's easy first. A leader, however, has to be willing to make the hard choices, return the difficult phone calls, and respond to the challenging emails… all within a timely manner. That doesn't mean such tasks should be done with haste, but it doesn't mean they should be done promptly. The stress of unfinished business can also be avoided when a person does the things that are hard.
