Don’t Challenge God’s Call (2 Kings 1-4)

Elisha-and-bears
While the story of Elisha calling down a curse on the young people is somewhat comical, it really underscores something important.  It's not simply a morbid Old Testament account.  Truly, Elisha had been given a calling by God, and it was his responsibility to follow the through.  The young men who were mocking him were challenging God's call.  Recognizing the situation, Elisha called them out for what they were doing, and they faced the unfortunate consequence of being mauled by some bears.  If nothing else, this needs to remind us that, when we receive a call from the Lord, we need to be quick in following through.  And on the flip side, we must be careful in questioning the call that God has placed on other people.  It could be that we are standing in the way of God accomplishing what He wants to accomplish, and in doing so, we will only wreak havoc upon ourselves.
