I'm just putting the finishing touches on a new, 2-week sermon series for the students. The series is called Facing Life's Giants, and the first sermon is on the giant of apathy. It's a giant we all face from time to time, and it's one that can kill us… especially when we have apathy with our Heavenly Father! For the first week we're going to look at 1 Samuel 17:20-26 where David faces Goliath and defeats the spiritual apathy of the Israelites. I love David's line: "Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?" When we realize that God is the true, living God and that the same spirit that was used to stone Goliath, part the Red Sea, and save Daniel from the lion's den actually lives inside of us, then we will take faith more seriously. You can rid yourself of apathy by getting in the battle and fighting for faith – by giving up the role of "undercover Christian." When true spiritual battles are fought, God ALWAYS wins, and when we see victory taking place, our desire to be apathetic is shattered. I'm already excited for Sunday!!
