Final thoughts on Job (Job 40-42)

August 15, 2007 By Seth 1 Comment

As I think about Job and the closing to this book, I am reminded of how good God is to us.  I'm also really thankful that I'm not God because I would have handled Job a little more harshly than God did.  In the end, God doesn't say, "Job, I was really planning on giving you a new fortune and blessing your life, but then you started questioning me.  I've decided you don't deserve it.  I've decided you said a little too much, and now you will pay for the rest of your life."  Instead, God graciously blesses Job with more wealth than he ever could imagine and a larger family than he ever had before.

This book reminds me that I am allowed to come to God with my questions and misunderstandings, and just as a parent wouldn't write off a child who didn't understand, neither will God write us off when we're willing to listen in return and accept His response.  I'm so glad that I serve a God whom I can approach with honesty and that He will not turn me away or punish me because of my ignorance.

Exactly. One thing I’ve always known in my heart about God from childhood is that He’s big enough not to be offended or put out by all my questions and my doubts, when I bring them to Him. The end of Job truly does let us know it’s ok to be ourselves before Him.
