God says ” Shut up! ” (Job 38-39)

August 14, 2007 By Seth 1 Comment

Have you ever had one of those moments when your realize that you've said just a little too much?  I feel like I had a lot of those when I was a kid (I'm sure my parents could verify that).  In the process of arguing, I liked to have the final word, and that final word was usually the one that pushed just a little too far.  Apparently Job finally broke the camel's back, and God decided that enough was enough.  I love these two chapters of questioning where God tries to figure out why it is that Job thinks he knows so much.  What an incredible reminder for us all that we don't even begin to comprehend the depths of the Almighty.  Job must have felt about an inch tall after this.  That's okay, though: sometimes I need to be put back in my place before I can move forward.

It is hard to believe we are finished with the book of Job already. God blessed Job at the end with more than he had had before. It makes me think of God’s words to us that our time on earth is short. When the suffering we have here on earth is over, we as Christians will be rewarded with heaven which will be so much better than any “treasure” we may have here on earth.
