It ‘ s not easy being rich (Matthew 19; Mark 10)

Believe it or not, rich people have more problems than non-rich people.  And a person can never seem to have wealth.  No one says, "I'm rich enough," and everyone thinks that the rich people are the ones who are in at least the next income bracket above their own.  Jesus had a lot to say about wealth, and the rich young ruler was in for a surprise when he pressed Jesus for the magic formula for getting into heaven.  "Sell all of your possessions."  How would that get a person into heaven?  It would could cause him to rely on his Heavenly Father.  The problem with wealthy people is that they tend to rely on their money for strength rather than on the Lord.  Is it evil to be wealthy or even wrong to be wealthy?  Absolutely not.  It is, however, harder to follow God when money pulls you in another direction.  Where do you find your security?  If it's in your wealth, then you should think long and hard about Jesus' words to this man.  Ultimately God should be the source of your security, and wealth is just a bonus.
