Jesus wasn ‘ t a ” Mr. Rogers ” (Matthew 20-21)

Fred_rogersIt really bothers me that all of the pictures of Jesus that we see around the church involve Him holding little children or tending flocks of sheep.  Though these are accurate portrayals of Him, they do not fully represent Him.  When Jesus turned over the tables in the temple He was angry.  He didn't always have sheep and children around Him; Jesus wasn't just a nice guy.  He was fired up about the abuses taking place in the temple and the profits people were making by ripping off those offering sacrifices, and He wasn't about to allow those things to continue.  There are things in our culture that should make us angry, too, and we shouldn't be afraid to stand up for what is right.  Jesus wasn't just a "Mr. Rogers."  People don't crucify Mr. Rogers.
