Limited Vision (Genesis 41-42)

Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has made all this known to you, there is no one so discerning and wise as you.  You shall be in charge of my palace, and all my people are to submit to your orders.  Only with respect to the throne will I be greater than you.” (Genesis 41:39-40)

When life gets the best of us, it’s easy to think that we’ll never get out of the depths of despair.  I can’t imagine what Joseph was thinking as he spent year after year after year in the Egyptian prison.  Truly, he had no hope of getting out.  All he knew was that his life consisted of an Egyptian prison.  When his name was called by the warden, perhaps he even thought he was being taken away to his final death.

But that wasn’t the fate of Joseph.  Prison wasn’t the end of his life.  In fact, he had a whole lot more living to do beyond his prison days. In his wildest dreams, Joseph couldn’t imagine the blessings that God was going to bestow upon him.  The same is true for all people who trust the Lord just as Joseph trusted Him.

Your circumstance may seem impossible in the moment, but that’s because your vision is limited.  It could be that God’s incredible blessing lies just a few moments away.

Remember that Joseph kept doing exactly what a person would do who believes that God is right by his side.  Be encouraged that your limited vision may not be the end of all things – it may simply be the precursor to God’s blessing on your life.

Father, keep me from being discouraged by whatever present circumstances I find myself in.  Give me peace and hope as wait for the future – trusting that all things together for the good for those who love You.  Give me perseverance for the challenging times in my life, and help me to trust You to see my through them.
