Not the Whole Truth (Isaiah 35-36)

The field commander of the Assyrian army was very skilled in the art of psychological warfare.  In fact, he spread a number of half-truths to the Israelites as a way of destroying their faith in God.  It was true that God was using Assyria to rebuild Israel's character and to grow them into the people He wanted them to be.  What wasn't true was the idea that they had no hope and that God essentially bowed down to Assyria.  They would later pay dearly for such a level of arrogance.  Negative circumstances in our lives don't means that God isn't present.  At times, we don't understand the purpose of what's going on.  In those moments, however, we have to place our trust in God because He is the author of this story, and He holds the future.  Nothing is outside of His control, and because of that, we can place our confidence in Him.
