Deuteronomy ends with Moses riding off into the sunset and the Israelite people about to enter their permanent home. I can't even begin to imagine Moses' emotion as he went into the wilderness to die. He had come so far, and he had led the people through good times and bad. Now because of a mistake he would not enjoy the Promised Land. Perhaps a bittersweet time for him? Sad to miss out on what was to come, yet glad to have the weight of leadership off of his shoulders.
A new day is dawning for Israel. Fresh leadership awaits them. Sometimes people are fearful when leadership changes hands, but God's words to Joshua (be strong and courageous) are certainly a source of encouragement. I am anxiously looking forward to re-reading the unfolding of this incredible story of God's people and His plan for their lives.
Congratulations everyone! We have now read about 20% of the Bible together! Cool, huh? Also, did anyone else catch that (according to the reading plan sheet) yesterday was Michaelmas? So, Happy Belated Michaelmas to all. Is that anything like Festivus???
