There are so many incredible thoughts presented by Solomon that I wanted to share a few of my favorites here. All verses are reprinted from the English Standard Version (ESV). Feel free to comment with some of your favorites from the readings.
- It is better to go to the house of mourning than to go to the house of feasting, for this is the end of all mankind, and the living will lay it all to heart. 6:2
- Be not quick in your spirit to become angry, for anger lodges in the bosom of fools. 6:9
- Surely there is not a righteous man on earth who does good and never sins. 6:20
- Do not take to heart all the things that people say, lest you hear your servant cursing you. Your heart knows that many times you have yourself cursed others. 6:21-22
- The words of a wise man's mouth win him favor, but the lips of a fool consume him. 10:12
- Even in your thought, do not curse the king, nor in your bedroom curse the rich, for a bird of the air will carry your voice, or some winged creature tell the matter. 10:20
- Light is sweet, and it is pleasant for the eyes to see the sun. 11:7
- Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. 12:13b
