São João Day

This evening we went to a São João Day festival (St. John) at the Lagoa de Itaenga.  This is a traditional holiday in Brazil similar to our Thanksgiving.  The night before the holiday people light large piles of wood along the streets.  The smoke was really strong due to the humidity, and we could even smell it in our apartment.  At the festival they serve lots of food made from corn.  Some of the food was really good, but one of the more disappointing dishes was something that looked like corn on the cob but was grilled and tasted more like some kind of wax food.
