There is within each one of us a thirst that exists in the soul. It has been referred to by some as a God-shaped hole that cannot be filled by anything other than God himself. We do try to fill it with other things, though, don’t we? Whether it’s the numbing powers of alcohol or the love and acceptance of another person, we find ways to make the thirst disappear temporarily. And each time we fail to truly address its need, it comes back even stronger than before. David’s thirst for God was so strong that he described it as a dry and weary land that thirsts for water. When your soul begins to thirst, avoid the temptation to quench it by your own means. Instead, take a moment to realize that God has placed within you a need for Him, and He is the only thing that will truly satisfy you.
