The Difference of a Day (Job 29-31)

August 14, 2013 By Seth Leave a Comment

Oh, for the days when I was in my prime, when God’s intimate friendship blessed my house, when the Almighty was still with me and my children were around me, when my path was drenched with cream and the rock poured out for me streams of olive oil. (Job 29:4-6)

It’s amazing what a difference 24 hours can make, isn’t it?  Whether it’s the birth of a child or the loss of a loved one, we quickly learn that a lot can change in a short period of time.  Job went from the joy of feeling God’s intimate presence to knowing the despair of loss of both loved ones and possessions in a mere 24 hours.

A lot can change in 24 hours – and that’s why we should value every moment that we have.

We never know how many more hours we can enjoy the company of a loved one.  We don’t know how much longer we will live without fear of war.  We simply have no idea what the next 24 hours holds, so we must make sure to make the most of the hours that we have right now.

Two dangers befall us: living in the past that we can’t change and living in the future for which we have no certainty.  Let us purpose to experience each moment as it comes because the difference of a day can be significant.

Lord, help me to value each moment of each day as I receive it.  Let me not be consumed with what might have been or what will be.  Instead, help me to find joy in your presence right now.
