The Garden of Your Heart

Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.  –James 1:21

Kari and I just bought a new home, and I’m realizing what an enormous task the landscaping is going to be.  The previous people living there didn’t have time to tend to the yard, and needless to say, there are a lot of weeds that need attention!  It’s amazing how fast weeds grow and begin to take over a yard if the caretaker neglects them.  Our hearts work in a similar way.  If we don’t pull out the “weeds” they will overgrow the place, and our hearts will not be prepared to receive the Word of God.  How is your heart?  Are there weeds that need to be pulled?  Have you neglected the soil of your heart?  Is there anyone you’re angry with?  Is there anyone you’re jealous of?  Do you need to forgive someone?  Preparing your heart for the Word of God is one of the most important things you can do.
