There is a bit of encouragement that comes when we understand that we are not ultimately responsible for the outcomes in life. In the case of David, for instance, God was His strength and shield, and He faithfully kept the covenant that He made with David. Israel’s power and status didn’t come necessarily because of its great strength as a warring nation; instead God decided to show favor to them. David’s faithfulness to the Lord paved the way for that to happen, but the nation itself had no strength except for what God allowed it to have. God honors the faithfulness of His people, and He is the One who controls outcomes. He places authority, and He removes authority; no nation’s power exists except that God allows it. That means our responsibility is to simply be faithful at doing everything He asks us to do – doing all for His glory.
