The Path Only Goes One Way (Judges 1-2)

Bridge closed 2
From my experience working in the church and just with people in general, there is often an intellectual disconnect between a person's actions and the consequences of those actions.  We often think that we're the exception to the rule and that the consequences of our choices will somehow be eluded by us.  We fail to realize that life is connected and that consequences follow our actions.  If a person chooses to avoid the sign in this photo, his car will still fall into some serious problems.  We understand that with roads, but we don't often see it in our day to day life decisions.  "If I do this, then that will logically follow."  It makes sense that a car would crash here, should the driver choose to ignore the sign, and the same is true with our lives.  Sadly, the same was true for the Israelites.  They ignored the many warnings that they received from Moses and from Joshua, and they chose to go down a path for which God had given them adequate warning signs.  Was it unfair, then, that they faced the consequences of their actions?  Hardly!  So what's the lesson for us?  We need to think about the warning signs that God gives us in His Word.  What are the consequences of the choices we are making, and do we want to live with them?
