Most of us are familiar with the story of Chicken Little and his concern that the sky was falling. In some ways, reading through Amos feels similar to listening to the cries of Chicken Little. The news for the Israelites was somewhat disheartening: some would be destroyed, others would be led away into exile, and God's voice would be silent. That certainly wasn't happy news, but the sky wasn't, in fact, falling. Amos ends his prophecy by sharing what's going to happen beyond the bad news: God would restore the people. They would return to their land and rebuild their buildings. We have good news, too. We live in a broken world that's plagued by sin, but we have hope that Christ will return to reestablish His reign on the earth. We have nothing to fear for the present because we know that we can cling to the future. Christ came, and He will come again. In spite of how things in the world may seem, the sky isn't falling.
