The Start of Wisdom (Proverbs 1-3)

In Proverbs 1:7, Solomon advises us that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.  That's a bit of advice that sounds nice but feels like it's not particularly practical.  Be that as it may, nothing could be further from the truth.  After all, it's when we fear the Lord that we realize our places in the whole scheme of things.  Solomon understood that the Lord is in charge of everything, and when we have a proper perspective on His omnipotence, His omnipresence, and His benevolence, then we start to understand how the world works.  After all, He created the earth, and He knows all of the physical and spiritual laws that exist here.  Do you fear the Lord?  If not, Solomon teaches that wisdom will always evade you.  You will find bits and pieces of it, but you will never quite hold it in your grasp.
