Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. (1 Corinthians 12:27)
It’s amazing what the power of “we” is. We can stay warmer together than I can alone. We have a better return on our labor. We can help each other. We need each other – particularly in the church.
There is no useless person in the church just as there is no useless part of your body. Each part of your body serves a specific purpose, and if that body part should go missing, you would immediately be aware of its absence. Sometimes we’re tempted to believe that the only role we fill in the church is taking up a seat on Sunday mornings. If that’s the case for you, then you should know that you’re robbing the rest of the church of your unique contribution to the body.
The church needs all of its members just as your body needs all of its parts. Are you serving in your church? If not, what’s keeping you from blessing others? What are your gifts? Maybe it’s time to begin using them.
Father, thank You for the reminder that we need each other in the church. There is no person who is lacking in value, and each person brings something unique to the body. Help us to remember that we play an important role in each other’s lives.
