When Someone Has a Message from God… for You (Job 32-34)

Voice-from-on-high
One of my personal pet peeves is when one person goes up to another and says, "God told me to tell you…"  Job's friend, Elihu was guilty of doing this, and just like most people who use the phrase, Elihu definitely did not actually have a message from God for Job.  The problem is that people mask their own opinions with this phrase, and they trick the recipients into thinking that what they have to say is actually worth listening to.  Sadly, most times the message is not from God, nor is the advice worth heeding – in fact, it's often not even Godly advice.  So the next time someone says he or she has a message from God for you, listen carefully and make sure that it is, in fact, from God.  And next time you're tempted to tell someone you have a message from God, make sure that you're not just sharing your own opinion – after all, God is not a person I would want to misrepresent.
